Carrie Bloomstons "Dreamer Collection" Blog Hop

Auch dieses Jahr durfte ich wieder für Carrie Bloomston nähen!

Yes, this year again I sewed for Carrie Bloomstons new fabric collection!

Und was für schöne Stoffe hat sie entworfen!
Die neue Serie heißt "Dreamer".
Carrie hat sich inspirieren lassen von alter indianischer Töpferkunst sowie alter Textil- und Handwerkskunst aus der ganzen Welt.
In die Farben könnte ich mich reinsetzten!
Wie letztes Jahr, wollte ich auch diesmal wieder ein medallionartiges Patchworkmuster mit 60° Winkeln machen.
Und als ich die Stoffe gesehen habe, wußte ich sofort, dass da was Seminole-angehauchtes perfekt passt!
Puh, ich habe ausnahmsweise sogar mal einen "Probeblock" genäht, damit ich ungefähr sehen konnte wie es wird und um sagen zu können, wie viel Stoff ich brauche.

Like last year I wanted to make a medallion style quilt with the 60° angles.
And when I saw the fabrics and read about Carries inspiration, I knew that some seminole-style would be perfect!
Phew, I even made a test block to see if I would like it and how much fabric I would need.

Trotzdem fand ich es wirklich aufregend in die Stoffe zu schneiden und war bis zum Schluß nicht sicher, ob mir der Quilt gefällt...
Dann war auch noch der Zeitplan so knapp, dass Carrie gesagt hat, wir "Europäer" könnten die Fotos für das LookBook selber machen, ihr mailen und den Quilt dann gemütlich hinterher schicken.
Oh, ich hab mich gestresst!
Mit unserem Fotoapparat bin ich nicht mehr zufrieden, also habe ich eine Freundin gefragt, ob sie mit ihrer guten Kamera Fotos machen kann. Sie konnte und so haben wir uns auf den Weg in den Wald gemacht- zusammen mit Quilt und - natürlich- Pferd!
Den Wunsch, meinen Quilt für ein Foto auf ein Pferd zu legen, erfülle ich Carrie gerne ;-)
Letztes Jahr war das Shetty das Model, dieses Jahr musste die Große ran.
Sie ist schließlich ein Araber! Mit edlen Vorfahren!
(Leider ist sie nicht unversehrt: Sie hat seit ihrer Kinheit eine Verknöcherung am Vorderbein und kann es deshalb kaum abbiegen. Nicht so gut, wenn man ein Pferd ist! Siewurde  trotzdem als Reitpferd genutzt, dann an eine Hobby-Züchterin verkauft, hat aber keine Fohlen bekommen und ist schließlich bei mir gelandet. Wahrscheinlich für einen geruhsamen Lebensabend.)
Jedenfalls ist sie das tollste Pferd überhaupt!
Und jetzt zurück zum Quilt!

Nevertheless I was very nervous when I started to cut into the fabrics and till the end I was not sure if I liked the quilt...
The timetable was so tight that Carrie suggested to take photos for the lookbook myself and send the quilt just in time for quilt market.
This photo taking totally stressed me out! Our camera does not do a good job any more and I asked a friend to take photos with hers. 
So off we went into the forest, with quilt and - of course- with horse!
Last year the shetland pony made the model this year it was the big ones term.
She is an arabian horse after all. With noble ancestors!
(Unfortunately she is not unhurt. She got her leg damaged when she was young so that she can not bend it. Not so good when you are a horse! She was used as a riding horse nevertheless, then sold to a hobby breeder, did not give birth to a foal and ended up at my place. To have unhurried sunset years (I like that word!) , I suppose).
Well she is the best horse and now back to the quilt!

Ach ja, nächstes Mal arbeite ich so schnell, dass mein Quilt wieder von Carries Fotografin Jill photografiert werden kann! Das LookBook (Katalog) ist so super schön geworden!
Auch dieser Beitrag hier ist Teil des Blogger Party, bei der alle Beteiligten ihre Werke vorstellen.
Es lohnt sich wirklich bei den anderen  vorbei zu schauen! (Bei den Namen, wo keine Dreamer Collection dahinter ist, habe ich den Link gleich entfernt...)

So jetzt kann ich dann in den "Sozialen Medien" auch schon mal Ausschau halten, ob ich meinen Quilt auf einem Foto von Carries Stand auf dem Quilt Market entdecke :-)!
Sie wird Samenbomben machen! Die Bienen liegen ihr am Herzen und ein Teil des Erlöses von ihrem Bienenstoff wird einer Organisation zugute kommen, die sich um Bienen kümmert.
Ich werde  mich mal erkundigen, wie man Samenbomben für unsere Gefilde machen kann und dann berichten! Das ist doch eine echt lustige Sache, Samen für Pflanzen auszuwerfen, die für die Bienen sinnvoll sind.(Nur irgendwie blöd, dass der Winter vor der Tür steht, fällt mir gerade ein... :-D  )

Story Collection -Blog Party

Manchmal werden geheime Wünsche wahr!
Als Carrie Bloomston letzten Sommer auf Instagram gepostet hat, dass sie gerade ihre neue Stoffkollektion fertig entworfen hat, bin ich schon fast vor Neugierde geplatzt.
Mir hatten ja schon die vorherigen Serien "Collage" und "Paint Collection" so gut gefallen.
"Ich würde einen Mandala Quilt machen" habe ich so vor mich hingeträumt und mich mit 60° Papier und Jaybird Linealen hantieren sehen.
Ohne jegliche Vorstellung, wie denn die Stoffe aussehen wüden- schon lustig!
Im März kam dann Carries Nachricht auf Instagram, dass sie ihre Mustersoffe bekommen hat und ihre Leute zusammentrommelt, um Sachen für sie zu nähen.
Naja, ich wußte nicht, ob ich so zu "ihren Leuten"gehöre. Zwar habe ich schon zweimal bei einer Blog Party für sie mitgemacht (zu ihrer DVD und zu ihrem Buch), aber ich habe Carrie noch nie persönlich getroffen oder auch nur mit ihr gesprochen.
Auf der anderen Seite fühle ich mich doch so, als würden wir uns kennen!
Nach tagelangen inneren Zwiegesprächen habe ich mich dann getraut und ihr eine mail geschrieben, ob sie denn von mir auch einen Quilt brauchen/wollen würde/könnte.
Und sie hat ja gesagt! :-))) !!!
Ja, aber die Zeit drängt, vor allem, da ja die Postwege länger wären...
Also habe ich mich in einer Nacht- und Nebelaktion mit meinem 60° Papier und Stiften hingesetzt und meinen Quilt entworfen, um ihr ASAP (das musste ich erst einmal nachschlagen!) sagen zu können, wie viel ich von welchen Stoffen brauche.
Die konnte ich damals in etwa so sehen.
Oh, so schön, oder?!!

Sometimes secret wishes come true!
When Carrie Bloomston posted on Instagram last summer that she just finished designing her new fabric line, I nearly burst with curiosity.
Thats because I  loved her previous fabric lines "Collage" and "Paint Collection" so much.
"I would do a mandala style quilt" I dreamed and saw myself busy with 60° graph paper and Jaybird ruler.
Without any idea of how the fabrics would look like- funny!
In March I read on Instagram that Carrie just recieved her new fabrics and is organizing her "sewing army" to get samples made with her fabrics.
Well, I did not really know if I was someone of "her sewing army". I took part at two of her blog parties (for her DVD and for her book) but I never met Carrie in person or even talked to her.
Nevertheless she feels like a friend to me!
It took a few days of inner conflict till I dared to write her an email if she maybe/evantually would need/want a quilt from me.
She said yes! :-))))!!!
Yes, but time is running especially if we count the extra days we need for shipping...
So in a nights session I sat down with my 60° graph paper and pencils and designed my quilt to give Carrie the information about wich and how much fabrics I needed, ASAP (honestly: I had to look this up!) 
I was able to see the fabric designs like that.
Oh, so beautiful, isn't it?!!

Und lange hat es nicht gedauert, da hatte ich ein großzügig gefülltes FedEx Paket vor der Tür!
Ich habe erst mal alles ausgebreitet und war ganz hin und weg:

And it didn't take long till I had a FedEx parcel in front of my door!
First of all I laid everything on the floor and admired the fabrics.
I loooove the color palette!

Dann habe ich einen konkreteren Plan gemacht.
An der Stelle überlege ich, was ich überhaupt für eine "Story" zu erzählen habe oder erzählen wollte.
Eigentlich ist es so: Meine Ideen fliegen mir einfach zu!
Ich nehme sie einfach und setze sie um.
Eigentlich...
Uneigentlich mache ich mir so viele Gedanken beim Nähen, dass ich nicht alle aufschreiben kann!
Bei diesem Quilt hat mir sogut gefallen, dass er von innen nach außen gewachsen ist.
Er musste einfach knallig gelb-rot-pink in der Mitte sein.
Dann hat es so gut gepasst, dass es einen dezent gemusterten Stoff mit Fischen (Meer, Wasser, Ursprung des Lebens) gab.
Und hey, ein Stoff mit Menschen, Sachen, Gedanken außen rum- perfekt!
(Wahrscheinlich war der Quilt schon von langer Hand geplant- vom Universum ;-)   )


Then I made a more precise plan.
At this point I reflect what story I have to tell or wanted to tell.
Actually it is like this: My ideas just fly into my head!
So I just take them and make... something.
Actually...
Unactually I give thought to so many things that I can't write them down!
With this quilt I liked that it grew from inside to outside.
It just had to be bright red-pink-yellow in the middle.
Than it suited so well that there was a fabric with fishes (ocean, water, origin of life).
And hey,  a fabric with people, things, thoughts -perfect!
(Maybe this quilt was planned a long time- by the universe ;-)   )

Und so habe ich geschnitten und genäht und geschnitten und genäht und mich gefreut!
And so I cut and I sewed and I cut and I sewed and had great fun!

Zwischendurch kamen mein Neffe und meine Nichte und haben auch genäht.
Davon habe ich hier schon erzählt.

Nebenbei habe ich auf Instagram verfolgt, was die anderen so machen.

Ich habe mich so verbunden gefühlt in unserer Begeisterung!

I felt so connected- everyone so passionate and full of love for the project.

Und dann war er fertig und ich habe Fotos gemacht.
Carrie fährt total auf ein Foto ab, das ich gemacht habe, als ich ihr Buch gelesen habe:
"Dreckiges Pferd mit buntem Quilt" hier zu sehen.
Sie hat vorsichtig angefragt, ob ich vielleicht mit meinem Story Quilt auch so eines machen wollte ;-)
Ja, hab ich (aber diesmal habe ich ihn vorher geputzt!) und viele andere!

And then the quilt was done and I took it out for photos.
Carrie loves one photo that I made when I read her book "The little Spark":
"Dirty horse with quilt" (here)
She politely asked if I would like to make one like this with my new quilt.
I did (but I brushed him before this time!) and many others!

Ja, es war noch Winter- Februar!
Yes, it was still winter- February!

Das hier sieht aus, als wäre der Quilt einfach vom Himmel gefallen.
This looks as if the quilt just fell from heaven to earth.

Die Aktion über dem Stacheldraht fand ich weitaus mutiger als die über dem Pony!
Hangig the quilt over the barbed wire took more courage than hanging it over the pony!

So, habt ihr euch jetzt auch alle in diese schönen Stoffe verliebt?!
Sie werden im Spätsommer auf den Markt kommen.
Es ist also noch etwas Geduld gefragt ;-)

My Story Quilt- Tutorial

Ok, so here is the tutorial for my Story Quilt!

(About the size....
I am afraid, I was in such a hurry sending it off that I forgot to write down how big it is!
I think it is about 40" in a square because I did not have to piece the backing...)

I worked with the Hex N More and the Sidekick Ruler by Jaybird Quilts.
It is really easy to cut the shapes with them.
Triangles and diamonds are cut with the Sidekick Ruler,
jewels are cut with the Hex N More Ruler.

The basics how to cut and sew together shapes with 60° angles are beautifully shown by Julie Herman.

I used these fabrics from Carrie Bloomstons "Story Collection" for Windham Fabrics:
40881-6 hot pink:                          2,5 inch
40881-4 red:                                 5 inch
40879-5 mustard:                          13 inch
40878-1 aqua (fishes):                   13,5 inch
40877-1 indigo (figures):                19,5 inch
36531 A- 9 paper (background):   31 inch

With the jaybird rulers cut:
pink: 1 strip 2,5 "
       from this cut 6 diamonds

red: 2 strips 2,5"
     from this cut 6 diamonds
    and 6 long diamonds 4,5" long!

mustard: cut 2 strips 6,5"
    from this cut 12 jewels

aqua fishes: cut 3 strips 4,5"
    from this cut 18 diamonds

indigo figures: cut 3 strips 6,5"
    from this cut 24 jewels

from background fabric:
  cut 2 strips 2,5"
   from this cut 36 triangles (small triangles)
 cut 3 strips 4,5"
    from this cut 30 triangles (big triangles)
cut 2 rectangles 12,5" x 21,5" and cut them in half diagonally

Sew units together with 1/4 inch seam allowance
Press seams open

Set aside 6 of the big background triangles
(those are Set 1)

Sew the 36 small background triangles to the
indigo jewels
and the mustard jewels.


Press, set the mustard units aside.

Turn 12 of the indigo units upside down.
Sew 24 big background triangles to the figure units as shown in the picture.
You will have 12 of each units.
Press.
Set aside 6 of the diamond units that have the background triangle facing up 
(those are Set 2) (in picture left)







Sew the aqua diamonds
to the 6 diamond units that have the background triangle facing up (in picture left).

Sew the aqua diamonds to all 12 of the diamond units that have the background traingle facing down (in picture right)
Press.
Set aside 6 of the 12 units with the background triangle facing down.
(those are Set 3) (no picture)

Now sew the mustard units to
the remaining 6 + 6 units
Press.
Set aside the units that have the background triangles facing down.
(those are Set 4) (in picture right)

Sew a red diamond to the right side of the pink diamond.
Press.


Sew the long diamond to the left side of this unit.
Press. 

Sew the red-pink units to the 6 long units with the background triangle facing up.
(those are Set 5) (in picture below very right)



Now you have Sets like this.

Sew them together to get 6 big triangles.

Sew the triangles together to get a big hexagon.

Add the long background triangles to make it a square!

Scale Down Gravity Quilt Blocks Verkleinern

For those who hopped over from Carrie Bloomstons Blog Party:
This is not yet my official blog party post!
It's just that I had some leftovers at hand when I started  minimizing the Gravity Quilt blocks...
My day will be Thursday this week!

O.k., hier kommen meine verkleinerten Gravity Quilt Blöcke!
Ich muss vorausschicken, dass ich einfach drauflos genäht habe und geschaut habe, wie es am besten ausgeht.
Bisher habe ich von jedem Block nur einen genäht und sie sind einigermaßen gleich groß.
Die Kantenlänge einer Raute beträgt bei nicht gestutzer Spitze 9 3/4 inch.
Garantie für hundertprozentiges Gelingen möchte ich keine geben...
Man braucht Buch und die Lineale von Jaybirdquilts, um die Blöcke zu machen.
(zum Beispiel von hier ;-)   )
Mit den Linealen sind ja für alle Formen verschiedene Größen möglich zu schneiden.
Beispielsweise auf dem Hex N More Ruler für die Form Hexagon
Hexagon ganz klein wird aus einem 2,5 inch breitem Streifen Stoff geschnitten
Hexagon klein wird aus einem 4,5 inch breitem Streifen Stof geschnitten
Hexagon mittel wir aus einem 6,5 inch breitem Streifen Stoff geschnitten
Hexagon groß wird aus einem 8,5 inch breitem Streifen Stoff geschnitten.
Wenn im Buch also beispielsweise für den original Block XY aus Stoff A ein Hexagon aus einem 4,5 inch Streifen geschnitten wird und ich festgestllt habe, dass es funktioniert, wenn ich für meine verkleinerte Form einfach eine Nummer kleiner nehme, würde ich schreiben: "Form um eins kleiner" und man würde ein Hexagon aus einem 2,5 inch Streifen schneiden.
Alles klar?
Na dann los!

O.K., so here are my Gravity Quilt Blocks in a smaller version than the original.
I have to say that I just tried it out!
Some worked very well, some needed modification, two blocks did not scale down easily.
One side of the diamond is 9 3/4 inch long now (corners not trimmed).
You will need the book, Hex N More Ruler and Super Sidekick Ruler by Jaybirdquilts to make the blocks.
I can't guarantee for my suggestions!


Block 1: Horizon

alle Formen um eins kleiner

Block 2: Constellation

alle Formen aus 4,5" Streifen schneiden

cut all shapes from 4,5" strips





















Block 3: Orbit

alle Formen um eins verkleinern

ich habe impovisiert:
alle Formen um eines kleiner
dann ist das blumenförmige Hexagon in der Mitte zu klein
darum habe ich (hellblaue) Streifen von 1,5" genäht, dann hat es gepasst

Inspired by Carrie Bloomstons "The little Spark"

Okay, wie soll ich anfangen?!
Erstmal Fakten (das ist leicht):
Bei mir geht es heute um das Buch "The Little Spark" von Carrie Bloomston.
Wer meinen Blog schon länger verfolgt weiß, dass ich ein Fan von ihr bin :-)
Jetzt ist ihr Buch "The little Spark" erschienen und man kann es endlich kaufen.
(wo man es hier außer bei Amazon bekommt, weiß ich ehrlich gesagt nicht)
Deshalb gibt es eine Blog Party!

Aber mir scheint, ihr Buch spiegelt ihre Kreativität, Lebensfreude, Lebenseinstellung und Liebe wider.
Eigentlich genau wie ihre Stoffe!

Ganz ehrlich: Für mich ist "The Little Spark" ein spirituelles Buch!
Ich kann das sagen- in meinem Bücherregal nehmen Bücher mit spiriutellen Themen genauso viel Platz ein, wie Bücher über Patchwork und Quilten.
Überraschung!
Ich bin nicht nur Patchworkerin, ich bin auch Heilerin- Reconenctive Therapy Behandlerin!
"The Little Spark" würde ich neben die Bücher von Deepak Chopra, Dan Millman und Neale Donald Walsh stellen.


Sadly I never met Carrie in person.
But I have the feeling, that her book reflects her creativity, groove, attitude and love.
Actually like her fabrics :-)

O.K. now...
To be honest: For me "The Litttle Spark" is a spiritual book!
I can say that because in my bookshelf books with spiritual issues take as much space as books about patchwork and quilting.
Surprise!
I am not only a quilter, I am also a healer- Reconnective Therapy practitioner!
So in my shelf "The litle Spark" would join the books by Deepak Chopra, Dan Millman and Neale Donald Walsh.
(I will put it next to the Dalai Lama- jus for fun :-D )

Ich habe das Buch ganz gelesen.
Eigentlich kann man sich wirklich "durcharbeiten".
Fast in jedem Kapitel gibt es die Möglichkeit, seine eigenen Gedanken zu notieren.
Die ersten Kapitel fielen mir recht leicht zu lesen und nachzuvollziehen.
Es geht um Zeit, sich Raum schaffen, einen Anfang machen, sich zu trauen, ...
Das 10 Kapitel heißt "Brich deine eigenen Regeln". 
Was ich gelesen habe war: Tu etwas Ungewöhnliches!
Mich hat der Übermut gepackt, ich habe den buntesten (waschbaren) Quilt geschnappt, den ich gefunden habe, mein Smartphone dazu und bin runter zu den Pferden.
Ich wollte ein Foto mit Quilt auf dem Pony!
Dieses war zwar total dreckig, aber vorher putzen hat ja überhaupt nicht zu meiner Abenteuerlust gepasst.
Deshalb heißt das Foto: Dreckiges Pony mit Quilt!


I really read the book.
Actually you can work through it.
In nearly every chapter there is space to write down your own thoughts.
For me the first chapters were easy to read.
It's about time, create space, make a start, dare, ...
Chapter 10 is called "Break your own rules".
What I read was: Do something unexpected!
I got high-spirited, took the first colorful (washable) quilt I could find and my smartphone and went to the horses.
I wanted to take a picture of a quilt on the pony.
He was realy dirty, but grooming did not suit my mood.
So the photo is called: Dirty horse with quilt!

Die übrigen Kapitel haben mich meist sehr beschäftigt.
Ich bin mit den Pferden spazieren gegangen und habe in meinen Körper gespürt.
Ich habe mein Inneres Kind gehätschelt.
Ich habe mich an meinem Talisman gefreut.
Ich habe mir erlaubt das Staubsaugen zu lassen und dafür zu nähen.
Ich habe mit den Worten "verlassen", "verlassen werden", "verlassen sein" "sich auf jemanden verlassen" gespielt und Bilder davon aus Stoff geschnipselt.
Ich habe meine "Schatzkiste" durchgeschaut und beschlossen, sie regelmäßiger zu befüllen.
Ich habe einen Blog Eintrag über kreative Menschen aus meinem Umfeld geschrieben
Ich habe eine Zeitungsschnipsel-Collage gemacht.


The other chapters occupied me for some time.
I went for a walk with the horses and listened to my body.
I pampered my inner kid.
I felt happy about my talsiman.
I allowed myself to skip vacuuming and sewed instead.
I played with the german word "verlassen" that can be translated with "to leave so., sth." or "to rely on so., sth." and cut fabric to make pictures.
I looked through my "SoulBox" and decided to use it more often.
I wrote a blog post about creative people I know.
I made a vision board.

Ganz ehrlich: "The Little Spark" kann ein Langzeitprojekt sein!
Ein tolles!

Honestly: "The Little Spark" can be a long time project.
A good one!
